From the Cartographic Art Statement
My cartographic artworks celebrate places, not just coordinates. Special places are memory, longing, and sometimes more: an identity, or a home.

The landscape shown in this artwork

The artwork spans the southern Eastern Cape from the mountainous Kouga landscape through Humansdorp, Jeffreys Bay and St Francis Bay to Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) and Algoa Bay, then continues east along the Sunshine Coast toward Kenton-on-Sea and Port Alfred.

Inland, Kariega (Uitenhage) and Makhanda (Grahamstown) connect the coastal belt to the ranges and river systems of the interior, extending north to KwaNojoli (Somerset East). The map also shows the wider Nelson Mandela Bay metropolitan area and the relationship between its urban settlements and coastline. By placing bays, rivers, mountain ridges and towns in one frame, the work reveals the transition from Cape St Francis through Algoa Bay to the Eastern Cape Sunshine Coast.

How the cartography is composed

A composed cartographic artwork — terrain, contours, hydrology, settlement and typography brought into a single visual hierarchy. The detail rewards close looking; the composition rewards the daily glance.

How it’s printed

Printed on Epson Enhanced Matte (190 gsm) — a bright-white, ultra-smooth archival matte paper chosen for exceptional cartographic detail and a refined, glare-free finish that reproduces terrain shading, contour lines and typography with clarity. Reproduced faithfully at full resolution; never redrawn, regenerated or simplified.

How it ships
