From the Cartographic Art Statement
My cartographic artworks celebrate places, not just coordinates. Special places are memory, longing, and sometimes more: an identity, or a home.

The landscape shown in this artwork

The map follows the Indian Ocean coast from Riversdale and Mossel Bay through George, Sedgefield, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, while also opening the inland landscape of the Little (Klein) Karoo. George sits beneath the Outeniqua Mountains, with Oudtshoorn beyond the range and the Swartberg forming the next major east-west barrier to the north.

Calitzdorp, Ladismith, Prince Albert and Willowmore are depicted in the Karoo interior, while the coast and estuaries such as Knysna Lagoon and Swartvlei form a contrasting southern edge. The result is a single regional portrait of coast, mountain passes, forested slopes, Karoo valleys and plateau, showing how the Garden Route, Little Karoo and Great Karoo are joined by terrain rather than divided by it.

How the cartography is composed

A composed cartographic artwork — terrain, contours, hydrology, settlement and typography brought into a single visual hierarchy. The detail rewards close looking; the composition rewards the daily glance.

How it’s printed

Printed on Epson Enhanced Matte (190 gsm) — a bright-white, ultra-smooth archival matte paper chosen for exceptional cartographic detail and a refined, glare-free finish that reproduces terrain shading, contour lines and typography with clarity. Reproduced faithfully at full resolution; never redrawn, regenerated or simplified.

How it ships

Works are wrapped and rolled in protective tubes for courier dispatch. Domestic shipping and handling within South Africa is included in the listed price. A1 Editions are shipped rolled in protective tubes; Flagship Works are shipped rolled and unframed in longer protective tubes due to their large format, with size-appropriate courier handling included in the listed South African price. Please unpack with care: genuine print-production faults and courier damage are covered, but damage caused by rough unpacking or handling after delivery is not. International shipping is available on request and quoted at cost before payment. Full details on production faults, courier damage and unpacking are set out in our Returns & Refunds policy.
